Enroll in six Foundational Classes and six Elective Classes. They include the completion of one required Capstone project and a second optional Capstone Project to participate in an open competition in Data Science. Participate in Summer Internships.

The special MSDS sections often have a very limited class size, in order to achieve the desired learning experience. The MSDS students have higher priority when it comes to registering for these sections. MSDS sections are likely to be filled in each semester. However, when space is available, students enrolled in the MS in Computer Science are allowed to register if they obtain permission from the MSDS program.

The program requires 33 hours of coursework and may be taken either full-time or part-time. Full-time students who already have taken all required prerequisites may be able to complete the program in one full year (3 semesters) of study. Part-time students and full-time students who need prerequisites will typically need from 1 1/2 to 3 years to complete the degree.
Early in the first semester, a student and the program advisor will work together to complete a formal Program of Study that will define a coherent sequence of courses to satisfy the student's objectives. A student may have the option to complete a Master's Thesis or a Practicum project, depending upon the availability and approval of a faculty sponsor.

Implement interactive tools for data analysis and sense making.

Thesis or Non-Thesis Option (36 semester credit hours)
Students must complete a minimum of 30 semester credit hours of graduate-level work in psychology and six additional semester credit hours of graduate-level work in psychology or supporting electives.

Develop strong communication and leadership skills.

Courses for the remaining 18 (thesis) or 24 (non-thesis) hours in psychology or supporting electives are unspecified, but must be approved by the student’s graduate advisor.
