Polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHAs) are polyesters synthesized by numerous bacteria and storaged by the form of cytoplasmatic inclusions as energy reserve material and reducing power under certain unbalanced growth conditions (Anderson and Dawes, 1990; Lee and Choi, 1999). The composition of PHAs depends mainly on the PHA synthases, the , the cultivation conditions and the metabolic routes involved (Hoffmann ., 2000). Economic evaluation of the process for the production of P(3HB) suggested that the major contributor of the overall 3(PHB) production cost was carbon substrate cost (up to 50%) (Choi and Lee, 1997).
