AP Bio Chapter 8: Photosynthesis Flashcards | Quizlet

Our results are contradictory with our hypothesis, based on our statistical results. There were several problems with our experiment that could have been taken into consideration. First, when taking respiration rates the foil wasn’t covering the chamber all the way letting some external light in. Second, the colored cellophane only allows approximately 70% of light through; this might have prevented the plant from absorbing the amount of light energy needed to have a significant photosynthetic rate. Third, the fast paced moving between trials lost time and efficiency. By having short trials (2.5 min.) we might not have allowed the plant enough time to adjust its photosynthetic rate to the different wavelengths of light energy. Plus by moving the plant, and switching from cellophane to foil (or vise versa), might have screwed up the photosynthetic cycle by exposing it to white light.

In this lab a red, green and brown algae will be used to extract the photosynthetic pigments from.

Photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) is defined as electromagnetic radiation over the spectral range of 400 nm to 700 nm that photosynthetic organisms are able to use in the process of photosynthesis to the carbon in CO2 into carbohydrates. Horticulturalists measure PAR for both plant research and greenhouse lighting design (e.g., Barnes et al. 1993) using specialized photometers (e.g., Biggs et al. 1971).

Photosynthesis Flashcards | Quizlet

The following video clip is an explanation of the importance of photosynthesis.

the rate of photosynthesis in different wavelengths varies due to the different pigments present in the plant because different plants have different pigments

Khan Academy is a nonprofit with the mission of providing a free, ..

A third form of chlorophyll which is common is called chlorophyll "c", and is found only in the photosynthetic members of the Chromista as well as the dinoflagellates.

It makes use of the bacteriorhodopsin pigment.

It should be emphasized that plants respire just like any other higher organism, and that during the day this respiration is masked by a higher rate of photosynthesis.

However, since each pigment reacts with only a ..

The granum (plural grana) is a stack of which contains the photosynthetic pigments; this is where the light dependent stage takes place:

fluoresce at a particular wavelength.

* Concentration of NaHCO3- because if it is increased/decreased it
will effect the rate of photosynthesis as all plants requires
carbon dioxide in one form or another to photosynthesize and the
more or less they have the more or less photosynthesizing they can
do up to a maximum point.

Photosynthetic pigment - Wikipedia

All plants, algae, and cyanobacteria which photosynthesize contain the pigment chlorophyll "a." A second kind of chlorophyll is chlorophyll "b", which occurs only in green algae" and in the plants.
