Learn about the Insect Biology major and the Department of Entomology

ENTM 5300 SYSTEMATIC ENTOMOLOGY (4) LEC. 3. LAB. 4. Pr. or . Departmental approval. Learn to use the tools of the taxonomist to identify common families of insects. A collection is required. Field trips will be taken.

Nevertheless, forensic entomology has been documented and proven very effective in crime solving.

Entomologists answer questions about what types of traps will keep food products free from bugs, and help figure out how to stop the spread of major diseases. Many fields, from business to public health, benefit from the work done by Entomologists.

Thesis Statement on Forensic Entomology: A new type …

While the true future of forensic entomology is uncertain, it is most likely its use will become more widely used as time goes by.

The Entomology Graduate Program is administered on campus at Clemson, approximately a two-hour transit from several major airports and larger cities including Atlanta and Charlotte. Excellent resources are available on campus, including highly dedicated research, teaching, and extension faculty and staff. Clemson University offers outstanding research resources, including molecular and cellular (e.g., world-class electron and light microscopy and genomic BAC libraries), organismal (e.g., natural history museum and large in-house arthropod collection), and ecological (e.g., the ~17,000-acre Clemson Experimental Forest with field sites within 15 minutes, and the Appalachian foothills within one hour). The library has superb electronic and physical resources, facilitating research efforts. In addition to on-campus faculty, a number of faculty are located across the state of South Carolina, at Research and Education Centers, where research plots related to agricultural entomology are located. These sites are equipped with state-of-the-art agricultural mechanization and computerization and other technologies.

(thesis) and PhD degrees in entomology and in nematology

Specific course requirements in entomology are dependent upon previous training and professional experience. Students are expected to demonstrate mastery in the core knowledge areas of 1) Insect Biodiversity, Systematics, and Insect Evolution; 2) Insect Ecology; 3) Insect Physiology, Toxicology and Genetics; and 4) Applied Entomology on their graduate degree plans to be designed in consultation with their major advisor and advisory committee. Prospective students are directed to for additional information.

Students in the Entomology Graduate Program are primarily supported by Research Assistantships (RAs) through faculty grants; prospective students are encouraged to contact faculty with overlapping research interests () to determine availability of support. In addition to RAs, the entomology program offers three merit-based fellowships. Two of these provide supplements to an RA, while the third provides a full stipend and tuition support. For more information on these, including eligibility and application guidelines, see . Additionally, a small number of teaching assistantships my be available within PES or other departments. These typically offer a moderate stipend and a tuition remission.

Forensic Entomology Option » Graduate Medical …

The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology offers entomology degrees including a of Master of Science (MS), Master of Agriculture (MAg) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). The Graduate program emphasizes basic and applied aspects of the science of entomology preparing students for careers in teaching, research and extension with a variety of academic, governmental, state, private and industrial opportunities. The educational goals and objectives of the MS degree program are to produce graduates who are fundamentally trained in the scientific principles and general knowledge of entomology and related sciences and who are able to apply these principles to successfully solve problems of an entomological nature or employ this knowledge at an advanced level of study. The purpose of the PhD program in entomology is to produce graduates who are fundamentally trained in the scientific principles and general knowledge of entomology and related sciences and who are able to employ this knowledge at the advanced level of study and/or apply these principles to solve problems of an entomological nature.

Entomology Research Honors Program - Cornell …

Students holding baccalaureate degrees in agriculture or the biological sciences may find this degree program helpful to their professional development and career goals. For a major in entomology at the MS level, the student should have a baccalaureate degree from a recognized institution with pre-requisite training in zoology, botany, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. Qualified students lacking mandatory courses may be admitted but will be required by the student’s advisory committee to make up any deficiencies.
